Bridge Coatings Inspector Program (1 and 2)

Certified status may be maintained for a period of four years if the Certified inspector provides the documentation listed and maintains appropriate work standards as evidenced through independent audits and owner endorsements.

Certified Inspectors are responsible for complete documentation of work experience. Within two weeks of accepting a position as a bridge coatings inspector, please notify the SSPC Program Administrator and fill out the Job Notification Form.

At the completion of each project, the inspector is to request the owner representative to send a completed Inspector Performance Evaluation Form to the program administrator. Certified inspectors must document a minimum of 2000 hours of bridge coatings inspection experience as it occurs during each four year period. This documentation may be listed on the Work Experience Form.  Special circumstance: If you have moved to a supervisory position where you do not work in the field any longer, you can still re-certify as a BCI Level 2 Inspector. The candidate under this option must have at least 2000 Hours of documented and verified work experience in supervising bridge inspection work during their 4-Year BCI Level 2 certification term.  This documentation also may be listed on the Work Experience Form.

Failure to document experience and obtain bridge owner representative endorsement will result in that experience not counting towards maintenance of Certified status. The inspector is responsible for updating the program administrator with current personal contact information.

Certified inspectors may extend their Certified status by completing the Re-certification Process every four years from their certification date.
